Book3: Fighter’s Destiny
Once again Udon has done a great job on the artwork. Every page explodes with vibrant colors and extreme amounts of detail. The third book focuses more on the characters, T.Hawk, and Ryu. Over all I found this issue to be dull, but it does have its moments where things get intense.
Ryu has finally made it to the temple where Sagat is training. Dhalsim, the yoga master that trained Sagat, decides to test Ryu to see if he is there for the right reasons or is just focused on vengeance. After weeks of training, Dhalsim is still unsure if his pupil is worthy, he poses the question” Could you promise me that, given the power to choose, you would choose to spare your greatest enemy’s life, rather than take it?” Unable to answer honestly, Dhalsim informs our hero that his answers are to be found elsewhere. He then sends him to find Gen, an assassin that has defeated Akuma before. After meeting with Gen, Ryu refuses to believe that the only way he will ever be able to defeat Akuma is by fighting him on his own terms, which translates to fight to the death.
T.Hawk is on a mission to find the two girls that went missing not too long ago. One is Little Eagle, a member of the Thunder foot tribe. The other is Julia, the daughter of a German Doctor who happened to live on the Thunder foot reserve. It is revealed that both girls have been brainwashed and turned to Dolls that work for M.Bison. T.Hawk teams up with Cammy, and Chun-Li in order to find the victims. The trio end up walking into a trap and are ambushed by Bison’s henchmen. Among them are the Dolls, T.Hawk attempts to talk some sense into them but quickly realizes that it is no use. In the midst of battle Rose appears to help out; She has the skills to break the Dolls free. Bison then intervenes but he is a little late, Rose has broken the spell on Little Eagle. He then turns his rage towards Rose and darts towards her. The battle ends quickly and Bison is victorious while showing no remorse for ending the life of Rose.
In the final chapters, it is revealed that Gen and Akuma have a rematch, the outcome being the death of Gen. Chun-Li and the twins, Yun and Yang, have a peaceful funeral for their beloved master. Chun-Li then receives an invitation to the Street Fighter Tournament. It appears Bison’s plan is under way as he sends out multiple invites to his tournament.
Book4: Bonus Stage
So far this issue is my favorite. Book4 is the “filler” of the series. There is no actual set story line; it is just a collaboration of mini stories by various artists. There are many, but the ones that stood out the most are how Ken develops his dragon punch, how Charlie and Guile meet, and Juni’s final test, which is so messed up. Sorry to spoil it but it is just too good; Bison makes her kill her mother. My favorite one would be the differences between Ken and Ryu, its just hilarious!
Hope you enjoyed and I hope it encourages you to go shopping!
