I was a freshmen when the Elder Scrolls first entered into my life. It was 2001, and I was at target looking for a new game. That’s when I came across The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. It was love at first sight, truly. I played the game for hours, I seriously could not put the thing down. I didn’t stand a chance, the game sunk its teeth into me and since then every new Elders Scroll‘s title is quite literally what I game for. Why? I have to say it’s mainly based on how open the world is, how limitless its opportunities seem. I owned Morrowind for a year before I even started on the main quest…I admit, I went a bit overboard. However, the games are just impossibly huge! The Nords were always my race, so the news of Skyrim was an absolute dream come true! Now, just over 10 years after my first introduction, I hold in my hand a copy of Bethesda’s new game, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. I’ve only played the game for two hours, but already I can tell this is Game of the Year material, but with a few flaws. (more…)

Once again The Walking Dead has managed to prove that a live action series based off of a comic book can in fact work! Season 2 of The Walking Dead continues to produce high ratings, with 7.3 million viewers tuning in for the seasons premier, breaking the previous seasons opening numbers by 2 million! Showing no sign of stagnation, AMC has opted to renew the series for a third season just days after its second episode aired.
The news is a welcome breath of fresh air, as there was much controversy surrounding the series in summer due to the sudden firing of series executive produce, writer and director Frank Darabont. Cast and crew alike were shocked at the sudden announcement a mere three days after Frank promoted the series at Comic-Con in San Diego. Reports from The Hollywood Reporter, suggest that AMC and Frank were in disagreement in regards to budget cuts made by the company. AMC opted to support their Emmy-magnet show, Mad Men, while undercutting their hit series by cutting $650,000 per episode from the series total budget.
With the second season already being considered a huge success, we can only hope that AMC will respect the show in regards to budget, and quality. However, Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman had some words to ease the anxieties of its fans, “I can’t say how proud I am of the second season of the show. It’s better that season one in just about every possible way. While losing Frank on the show has been difficult, it has remained a ‘behind the scenes’ problem and will not, in any way, affect what you see on screen.”

The future is finally here! We all saw it in Back to the Future, and dreamed about owning it. I’m not talking about the flying cars, or even the hover boards. No, this is so much better. That’s right, you can own Marty McFly’s shoes! How freaking awesome is that! One problem — they’re super expensive! (more…)
One thing you hear a lot as a fan of comics is, “What do I need to read first, if I want to get into comics.” Personally, I’m of the belief that you don’t really have wade through hundreds of back issues just to start reading comics. In all honesty, they do a pretty good job on their own creating starting points. Still, most people insist on having some knowledge of the universe before jumping in, or just a sample of how comics run in general. It’s not that simple though, everyone has their niche of comics they enjoy, some like capes, and some like noir stories. There are Marvel fans, and then DC Fans. Last week, when asked this question, my friend looked at me confused as I buried her with a barrage of questions, before cutting me off and saying,”No, I know nothing of comics…just give me a damn top 10.” Well poo. Still, I said fine and quickly wrote out a list for her. Thankfully, it worked and she’s now an avid fan of comics! So, I re-examined that list, tweaked it a bit and decided to make it an official thing. So I bring forth to you today, my definitive top ten trade paperbacks that you should own as a fan of comics!
