I had to quadruple check my sources on this one, because rumors to this effect have been flying, for the most part, since Toonami went off the air in the first place. This time, though, the Good Word comes straight from the horse’s mouth, which is to say it comes straight from Adult Swim’s twitter account.
Five days ago, the official Adult Swim twitter made the official announcement that officially states Toonami is finally, officially, coming back to our airwaves. The announcement came along with a promotional image (see featured image) and the hashtag #toonamisbackbitches.
The announcement was made one day before their Upfront event in New York, where they announced the largest line-up in their eight years on Cartoon Network. The schedule includes fourteen new shows, ten returning AS originals, (including the once again re-named Aqua Something You Know Whatever, the newest title of Aqua Teen Hunger Force) and five returning acquisitions, as well as The Cleveland Show, new to Cartoon Network.
Toonami will return as Adult Swim’s Saturday night programming beginning this Saturday, May 26th.
Adultswimcentral.com has listed the following as Toonami’s programming:
“12:00AM – Bleach
12:30AM – Deadman Wonderland
1:00AM – Casshern Sins
1:30AM – Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood
2:00AM – Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (will be 2nd GIG on Saturday when Toonami premieres, will probably be both)
2:30AM – Cowboy Bebop
3:00AM until 6:00AM/END – Repeat block”
Toonami’s Jason DeMarco has been tweeting about programming since the announcement was made, and often answers fan’s questions through his Twitter account. DeMarco urges us all to tune in on Saturday, and to keep “bugging the network” about things we want to see, or things we don’t. It was our bitching that got toonami back on the air in the first place, after all! DeMarco also mentions that funding for Toonami is essential to keep it on the air, and keep expanding the variety of shows as well as bringing back older favorites.
