With the busy summer convention season behind them Funko has begun to crank out new sets of Pops to win over collectors. If you think that just because these aren’t glittering SDCC exclusives they are less amazing, you’d be missing out on some of the best figures of the year. Come find out which Funko Pops I think are going to make waves this Fall!
10) Andre the Giant
This is a straight up nostalgia pick for me, considering there isn’t a Princess Bride collection in current planning. This is an even cooler pick if you’re a fan of the graphic novel detailing Andre’s life and struggles; a heroic feature if there ever was one. The only mandatory feature would be that this figure must be at least a quarter inch taller than typical Funko Pops. At least.
9) The Munsters
This is a wonderful tribute to the cult classic 60’s TV comedy and honors the favorite cast of characters in Funko’s style. I can see a whole lot of exclusives coming from this set, especially glow-in-the-dark variants. Personally? I would love to see a Herman Munster in a greaser outfit included with his hotrod from The Munster Movie.
8) Once Upon a Time
In anticipation for the latest season, we’re getting a set dedicated to our favorite characters from the hit tv show. The other neat feature here is that the Regina figure looks very similar to the SDCC exclusive, which goes for north of $100 USD. So if you’re looking to celebrate the new “Black Swan,” arc or get a nice deal on a SDCC exclusive, this is a set to watch for.
7) Peanuts
Just in time to celebrate the latest Peanuts movie and 65 years of Charles Schultz. I love how they included a Woodstock with Snoopy, perfect for fans of the famous beagle. It would be awesome if we also got a Red Baron version of Snoopy with his red dog house as a vehicle. Somehow the Funko style suits Schultz’s style for each of the characters, making them wonderful pieces for any collection.
6) Skyrim
Anyone else glad we can now make a whole new generation of Skyrim, “Arrow to the Knee,” jokes with the GameStop exclusive Whiterun Guard? This release is twofold: an Elder Scrolls line and a specific Skyrim line. Both are awesome, and if you’ve played into the game series or just traveled the northern realms in Skyrim, you’ll find something neat from both collections. The Daedric Armor figure and the Whiterun Guard are by far my favorites.
5) 50’s Batman
Continuing with their Batman exclusives, Entertainment Earth has just announced another addition: 1950’s Batman, depicting his second style during the Golden Age of comics. If you already have a complete set of the Rainbow Batmen, this would be an essential piece to finish off your tribute to the Caped Crusader.
4) 5th Element
Leelo Dallas Multipass strikes a pose in her Funko Pop incarnation. Not only do we get two versions of Leelo, both in white bandages and her regular costume, but we get the rest of the ensemble including Zorg and Diva Plavalaguna. Personally I am pleased to see Ruby Rhod make the cut, though his figure would have been far more hilarious in his black costume all beat up from the cruise ship sequence.
3) Rocky Horror Picture Show
Let’s do the Time Warp! If you have fond memories of watching this film/play/live performance with a crowd of people throwing hilarious objects, then this line of Funko Pops are just for you. The only thing I wish was in this set is a Rocky, but alas not even Funko is perfect.
2) Monty Python and the Holy Grail
This line of Funko Pops will leave more than a flesh wound on your wallet, friend. We even get a rock’n figure of Tim the Enchanter, complete with killer bunny. Those big nasty teeth! Seriously though, I think they did an excellent job making Tim, and the rabbit was just the perfect bonus to make his figure my favorite of the lot.
1) Star Wars Force Awakens
Chewie, we’re home. And with a heap of brand new Star Wars figures. Comics Alliance leaked some of the new figures and we’re in for some serious merchandising. This set features brand new models of Chewbacca and C-3PO, along with debut figures for the new core characters. They even spoiled the upcoming Amazon exclusive for the First Order Stormtrooper. There are easily going to be over 15 pops to this new line so happy hunting and may the Force be with you.
Note: I would totally post a picture or two of the new Star Wars Pops, but I am also totally not allowed to do so. Sorry!
Honorable Mention: Funko Case
Own a Funko Pop that’s too precious for words and are looking for a way to safeguard it? Fear not, we used to depend on flimsy fold up containers to protect our Pops, but now we’re getting a solid plastic hard case directly from Funko to store our treasures. They cost the same as a Pop, but if what you mean to store is precious enough then it’s well worth the price.
