Ferals #1
Story by David Lapham and Art by Gabriel Andrade
Generally, I like David Lapham’s writing. He brings Deadpool to life, he does well in a serious type of setting, so I didn’t over think my choice to pick up Ferals. Just a slight warning: this is a “mature” comic in all sense of the word. The story unfolds in a tiny town of under 500 called Cypress and there’s been a local murder. Murder is a term I throw around lightly. This person (Mark) has had limbs ripped from his body, there’s blood everywhere, it’s fuckin’ awesome. One of three officers in this tiny town happens to be Mark’s friend and is called to the scene by Mark’s ex-wife, Jackie. Hostilities are traded between Jackie and Dale while the coroner scopes the scene and diagnoses the murder as something done by a kind of animal. Dale dismisses this due to the extreme nature of the murder and the fact that nothing was eaten. He proceeds to go out that night and get drunk off his ass before banging a blonde in the bar restroom. It’s an odd scene and it’s immediately followed by Dale getting MORE ass in the form of his buddy’s ex-wife. Yep, I mean Jackie. The comic ends with Jackie being brutally torn apart by a werewolf while Dale gets a huge scratch down his back before getting saved by Jackie’s neighbors. Lame set up aside, I’m not digging the dialogue between characters. If this was the intent, okay, fine.
Not a big fan of the art at all.It looks clumsy, the blood and gore is nowhere near as amazing as it is in The Strange Talent of Luther Strode (another indie) and it just looks like a really bad B movie. Sorry, Gabriel, I’m not a fan of your art here, so I’d prefer it if you stick to Lady Death. The excessively goofy tits on the girls, Dale bangs are silly and face weird directions. Fix them!
I didn’t like anything about this comic aside from the boobs and those were drawn badly. Leave this on the shelf.
