IHOGeek Is Going To LunaCon 2012!

It’s true, cross my heart. From March 16th-18th, we’ll (aka Jen and I) be attending New York’s oldest science fiction and fantasy convention. The three-day con will be hosted at the Rye Brook Hilton in Rye Brook (duh), New York. Along with attracting all manner of sci fi and fantasy fans, Lunacon has a history of featuring legendary figures in gaming, comics, and books.

This year’s guests of honor include sci fi author John Ringo (Troy Rising series and a WHOLE lot of other novels), webcomic creator Howard Tayler(Schlock Mercenary), game developers Andy and Kristin Looney (founders of Looney Labs), and *drum roll* young adult author Tamora Pierce! I promised that I’d keep my declaration of undying love to the uber talented Pierce to a minimum (I also promised that I wouldn’t break out into song), so here’s the skinny: Pierce is the author of over 2 dozen fantasy novels that feature predominately kick-ass young women that either A) kill things with swords or B) kill things with magic. I missed my opportunity to see Pierce at NYCC because I was too busy waiting in line to not get into the Dragon Age panel. However, the universe has apparently forgotten that I am an extremely bad person and decided to grant me the greatest gift this geek girl could hope for: an interview with my favorite author ever! So stay tuned for that hard-hitting exchange (hard-hitting because I’m pretty sure that con-security will need to tackle me to the ground after I inevitably try and steal a lock of Tamora’s hair).

Besides my future arrest for attempted cloning (my very own Tamora, imagine the possibilities!), Lunacon offers many opportunities for fun that any fantasy fanatic in the Tri-State area shouldn’t miss. Along with con-staples like the Masquerade, Dealer’s Room, and many different panels and discussions, Lunacon hosts a huge art show, with pieces available for bidding and quick sale. For the gamers attending, expect to have a host of games available to challenge friends and all the people (me and Jen) that you’re bound to meet!

Be warned, there will be no courtesy shuttle this year from the train, so here’s a list of local taxi companies. I plan to make friends really quickly with any fellow passengers that look like they’re heading my way and split the fare (if you read my NYCC article, you’ll know that I find con-commuters really easy to spot).
