Alpha Girl #1
Story by Jeff Roenning & Jean-Paul Bonjour with Art by Robert Love
Judith Meyers is a badass. She coolly smokes her cigarette as she gives you the lowdown behind the zombie apocalypse. She smirks at the fools at Moujou Cosmetics who caused the entire thing to happen and bemoans that it wasn’t awesomer. The tale does get a little sad as should all good zombie stories and we learn a little about her childhood and the hard, cold way she and her brother discover their mother’s body. Judith and Johnny are split and put into foster homes and it will be awhile before they see each other again since Johnny is in prison until he’s 18. Judith fares a bit better and settles into her foster home with a “mom” who doesn’t give a fuck and hands her cigarettes. The story switches to Moujou Cosmetics and two scorned perfumists are stuck on pheromone research hoping to make it big. Their latest test study creates rage in their subjects and they pick up some illegals to continue experimenting on, in hopes they’ll be able to create an energy supplement. This goes very wrong and BLAM! Zombie apocalypse.
Robert Love has a gift with making the already humorous story even more so. It only enhances the funniness of everything going on and some of the zombie poses are utterly ridiculous in the best way possible. I loved the big two page spread with naked and clothes zombies attacking civilians. It’s genius.
I will definitely be picking up Alpha Girl #2. It was just a good, fun zombie comic to own and since Walking Dead covers the drama part of the apocalypse, I need some laughs.
