Smallville is coming back this April!

On May 13th of 2011 Smallville ended its 10 year run with the finale that fans have wanted to see since its conception. Clark donned the Superman outfit and saved the world, making his first public appearance as the man of tomorrow. Of course, it only lasted a few short minutes and we never really got to see him in the full outfit (technically), but still it was a pretty great send off for the hit series. The show had its ups and downs, with some seasons being remarkably slower than the previous, however; in the end it really managed to pick itself up and raise the bar quite a bit. One episode, however; just didn’t seem enough for Clark’s adventures as Superman! For some time there have been rumors Smallvilles return, some stating there would be a movie and others a spin-off series. Well, fans can finally rejoice as Dc Entertainment has officially announced that Smallville will be returning for a 11th season, via comics!

The series is set to pick up six months after the finale, where Clark is now struggling with being both Superman and Clark Kent. The comic will also have series favorites: Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, Chloe Sullivan, Lois Lane, and of course Lex Luthor who made a dramatic return in the series finale. Taking control of the new series writing will be long-time Smallville writer Bryan Q Miller, who up until the New 52 was covering Stephanie Browns run as Batgirl! The series is set to begin April 12th, where it will first start as an online comic with a new chapter being released weekly. From the teased image of the show it can be assumed that DC Entertainment has retained the likeness of the characters in Smallville, and will be using them for this new season. Bryan had this to say in regards to the new series, “New allies abound!  New enemies afoot!  And old friend’s return where they’re least expected!  Pere and colorist Chris Beckett have done a fantastic job of capturing the look of the show and the players, and Gary and Cat are knocking it out of the park on covers. I couldn’t be more excited to help give seasoned viewers and new readers and all-access pass to Clark’s first year in the cape.”

Although there is always a risk of backlash from fans if the series fails to deliver on expectations, it’s pretty exciting that we’ll finally be able to see Smallville’s unique setting push beyond just The Blur, and Clark’s journey to understanding his destiny. With this being backed by DC Entertainment there is hope that other characters from the DC Universe will make an appearance, as Miller does make a point to announce new Allies, and enemies. Does this mean famous heroes such as Batman, or The Green Lantern will show up? Who knows, regardless this should be one hell of a ride!
