Funko’s Collector Corps Unboxing: Villains
Sub-Cultured
For the Collector Corps Fall edition, we have the theme Villains. I suppose they picked this theme to go along with Halloween, and they make a strong case for it with Venom featured on the box’s cover licking into the foreground. Today I will be showing off the awesome gifts inside and going over what you have to look forward to next edition of Collector Corps.
Every Collector Corps box contains a themed pin, patch, a comic, and shirt.
No Pop Tee shirt this time around, but it’s still a cool shirt and very much akin to the one featured in the first Collector Corps box: Avengers.
The comic the included in the box is a neat variant of Invincible Iron Man #1.
I haven’t yet tried out this title so this is a pretty cool addition for new readers looking to scope out a title from afar.
The Villains box breaks from the norm by including the first Collector Corps Pop Keychain, Venom.
I might just put this one my key chain, I haven’t decided, but I am definitely going to take some pictures of this on my NYCC exclusive Iron Throne Pop.
Also included is a Dorbz product, Loki with his signature helmet.
It’s a standard sized Dorbz so you won’t need to worry about shelf clearance, but it’s certainly taller than normal thanks to those horns. I haven’t been much of a Dorbz fan, but I can see how this one might change some peoples’ minds.
Finally, the moment we’ve been waiting for, or at least the one I’ve been waiting for, the Pop of the box is…
Morbius!
Here’s the twist, and I have some mixed feelings about this, there’s 2 variants of this Pop: Zombie Morbius and “Vanilla” Morbius. I’ll be honest, Zombie Mobius is the winner by miles. The sculpting job is far superior compared to his counterpart, and with the teeth and expression; it might be the most intricate face I’ve ever seen on a Pop.
Now about there being 2 versions, we don’t really know the chances of getting one or the other… this seems like an eBay trap. Would I go out of my way to order 2 or more boxes to get future variants? Probably not, but it would depend on the theme, the figure, and if I knew there were going to be variants. They have teased that the Star Wars box will have chase variant Pops as well as different shirts, currently I am plotting to see how much punishment my wallet can take and still afford to go see Force Awakens 20 times.
So after the last Secret Wars-themed box, I feel like Villains is a step backwards for Collector Corps. As much as I hate saying that, it’s almost the previous Secret Wars’ fault setting the bar so high with 2 amazing exclusive Pops: Miles Morales Spider-man and Secret Wars Thor aka Female Thor. Not to mention the amazing Secret Wars Pop Tee that came with it, teasing the possibility of a Sam Wilson Captain America Pop. My guess is that because they went with some cheaper items in Villains they were able to put more in, as opposed to Secret Wars that was lighter but had more expensive ones.
December’s box, aka The Christmas Box, has been announced to be Guardians of the Galaxy themed. This was kind of met with some groans, “Not another Dancing Groot Pop…” It’s true, there are 5 variants on that Groot alone and several of the fully formed Groot. We’re at peak Groot. So maybe we can expect a flocked Howard the Duck? Or a mysterious figure holding the Infinity Gauntlet? I honestly felt that the first couple of Guardians of the Galaxy Funko products did a good job of serving our wants, so I am curious to see what they’ll give us in December. Stay tuned!
So what did you think of the Villains box? Loved it? Hated it? Sound off in the comments! Also look for our review next month (or perhaps early December-ish) for the brand new Star Wars Funko gift box: Smuggler’s Bounty!
