EDIT 3/8/14: CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED.
The first time I dressed up as Eddie and went to a showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show with some friends, including one who had never seen the movie before in her entire life. We cut up, cat-called, danced in the aisles, judged a costume contest (Edward Scissorhands won, but I thought the Peewee Herman deserved it more). I’d had so much fun my face was sore the next day from grinning and laughing so much.
One of the best experiences was when I saw Dreamgirls in a packed theater. The crowd was so interactive but respectful, I felt like I had just left a Broadway show. Seriously, there was a standing ovation at the end.
Hmm, my most satisfying movie experience… Well, when I saw Frozen, it was a celebration of just wrapping up a difficult final and being free for winter break! It was really nice to be able to focus on the movie and not anything stressing me, plus the movie itself was beautiful :)
My most memorable movie experience was in 1986 when Aliens came out. My family was living on the island Adak, one of the Aleutian Islands of Alaska while my Father was stationed there at the naval base. It was Christmas time when Aliens was being shown at the base theater. My father was treating me and a good friend of mine, Jamie, to the movie and as usual (as this is how Dad was with movies) we were first in line. So, we were waiting in line which was starting to get longer and longer. About 30 minutes before the start of the movie, a theater person stepped out and said the movie was canceled, they couldn’t get the safe opened to get to the cash box. My father, who was a Navy Chief at the time, also the enlisted in charge of the the transportation department, asked if they contacted someone about there. The guy said we will see what we can do. About 5 minutes later a 2nd person came out and said the movie is canceled. Again my father said, “Hold up, have you contacted Chief (Smith) to see about taking care of this, because you have a aweful lot of people here (he motioned to the long line) to see a movie. Tell him that Chief Fell told you to call him.” So the guy sighs and goes back in. 5 minutes late the first guy comes back out, “Merry Christmas everyone, the movie is free tonight.”
I never saw the theater so fully packed before. People were sitting in the isles, leaning against the back wall and so forth. Now… imagine this also, Aliens is being shown, in a theater that is housed inside the complex that also has the barracks for the Marines stationed on the island. A very interactive movie.
I took my now ex-boyfriend to go see Jurassic Park at a midnight showing…he had never seen it before and me, being a huge nerd wanted to experience it with him for the first time. After the movie, he said “Ummm…yeah so I don’t think this is gonna work”. I was sad at the time, but he saved me months of time trying to get him to accept my nerd style. Thanks Jurassic Park!
The Fellowship of the Ring! I was in middle school and had just picked up the series on a whim, never having heard of Tolkien before. I fell in love and read it over and over. It was the first movie I’d ever REALLY wanted to see so my parents took me for my birthday. I laughed, I cried, I got goosebumps, and I couldn’t shut up about it afterwards. It was one of the most moving experiences of my life seeing my favorite book come to life like that.
When I saw the Dark Knight, I got to gloat to everyone who said Heath Ledger would be a bad Joker. I’m an awful gloater. B-)
My most satisfying, movie-going experience was during the IMAX viewing of the recent Star Trek re-make. I ate all my popcorn during the first half of the movie and was still hungry. It turns out that I had an extra Snickers bar in my purse! That kept me satisfied through the rest of the movie!
-Formerly hungry,
Halo Seraphim.
The best movie experience was during the Christmas season when I watched home alone and ate a whole cheese pizza just for me. I couldnt believe I ate it all. I was so bloated and stuffed for the rest of the movie but then I drank a dr pepper and burped and then felt better to have some ice cream with snickers crumbles. Yum!
My most satisfying movie experience, was the midnight premier of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 2. Everyone in the theater was connected during that 130 mins, we had watched the characters grow up, we cried, laughed, and loved. In the end after waiting in line for five hours, settling into the movie theater seats and watching the last moments of my favorite childhood book and franchise. The whole theater stood and applauded loudly. It was the biggest burst of feelings that I have ever felt and precipitated in! I love for that moment, how you feel part of such a vast community!
