Here’s a summary of everything Nintendo had to announce at its Digital Event for E3 2014.
Super Smash Brothers 3DS/Wii U
Though we’ve already got tons of details on the new Smash Bros game, Nintendo just keeps the news coming. First off, you can play as your Mii! The Miis have 3 classes, brawler, sword, and gunner, allowing you to pick a moveset you like best for your Mii. Not sure if you can customize each moveset with different moves, but at the very least, there appears to be moveset classes. It’s also got the best reveal video ever.
Legend of Zelda
We’ve known there was going to be a Legend of Zelda Wii U title for a while, but this marks the first press conference we’ve gotten to see it. And holy crap does it look good.
Yoshi’s Wooly World
Taking the same visual cues as Kirby’s Epic Yarn, Yoshi is back and looking handmade with tons of knitted environments and fabric textures. I wanted to just lay down in the game and take a nap it looked so warm and cozy.
The gameplay looks a lot like Yoshi’s Story, even featuring some of the same block types, items, and gameplay mechanics like egg shooting. So HD super cute Yoshi Story? Of course I’ve gotta buy it. Damn you, Nintendo.
I didn’t play Super Mario World 3D, so I have no idea who Captain Toad is or why he’s tracking treasure, but it looks interesting. You play as the golum-voiced mushroom man solving puzzles in small, cube-shaped maps. Like Meigakure, but without the 4D mechanic. Not many details on this, other than it’s a standalone game of Captain Toad.
There are a few more details on the plot of the highly anticipated Bayonetta 2. Bayonetta’s friend Jean appears to have died and gone to hell, so she’s is breaking in to rescue her. The new game also comes with the entirety of the old game as well, but with a few added bonuses like allowing Bayonetta to cosplay as Peach, Samus, Link and maybe more! Very nice bundle for those who haven’t played it yet.
Some more details on the Dynasty Warriors/Zelda mashup have come to light, exposing Zelda, Impa, and Midna all as playable characters. It looks like a Zelda game but plays like a Dynasty Warriors game, something I’m definitely in to. It’ll be coming to the stats September 26.
Miyamoto says it exists and utilized the gamepad for flying! That’s about all people need in order to pee themselves.
Splatoon
This game is a new IP and looks like a ridiculously fun competitive experience. It’s 4v4 third person shooter in which 2 teams battle for territory by shooting paint everywhere. The team with the most territory painted wins. Now here’s the interesting thing, you can switch on the fly between being a person and being a squid. Yes, a squid. Squids can swim in their own paint much faster than humans can run and can even hide in the paint while waiting to ambush enemies. Humans walk tragically slow in enemy paint, so combining all of this information opens up a lot of booby trap, team push, and strategy options for each team. Though it sounds incredibly silly, this is probably the game that interested me most from Nintendo at this presser. No, Smash Bros and Zelda don’t count.
Remember how Xenoblade Chronicles was getting a sequel? Well now it’s called Xenoblade Chronicles X and looks pretty awesome, though the graphics could still use beefing up.
