The new Wonder Woman 9-issue miniseries written and pencilled by Renae De Liz is collected here! In the beginning there was only chaos. Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, saw a better future-and eventually her daughter would be destined to bring that new world to life! Before her ultimate fate unfolds though, Diana of Themyscira must learn the important lessons of an Amazonian childhood! Wonder Woman has had a slew of reimagined origin stories in the last two years, but this is by far my favorite. It’s just gorgeous in both art and story. Her supporting cast is just as important as Diana herself and I think I talk to at least one person about it every day.

Life. Death. Poison Ivy has power over both. But can she keep her friends and hold down a regular job at the same time? As Dr. Pamela Isley, she joins the prestigious plant sciences department at Gotham Botanical Gardens, but things quickly get complicated when a fellow scientist is murdered and it looks like the work of Ivy. Amy Chu gives us Ivy at her most normal and it’s a breath of fresh air. For once she isn’t ONLY a femme fatale, she’s brilliant and innovative in her field of science, something fans of the villainess have seen a lack of in recent history.

This is an all-new Steven Universe adventure! The Gems tell Steven a spooky story about a monster who turns bad Gems into glass and shatters them. Pearl assures a terrified Steven that it’s just a story, but suddenly people around Beach City start turning up frozen in glass. The creative team successfully captures the voices of the gems and Steven in this short mini. It’s super cute, especially for fans of the hit cartoon series, with tons of jokes and fun art. Definitely a must have!

Proof that we’re living in the best of all possible worlds: Marvel is publishing a Squirrel Girl graphic novel! It’s a standalone adventure that’s great for both old fans and new readers! It’s a story so huge it demanded an original graphic novel! It’s a story so nuts it incorporates both senses of that word (insanity and squirrel food)! And it’s the best! Squirrel Girl kicks butts, eats nuts, talks to squirrels and also punches really well. She has defeated Thanos, Galactus and Doctor Doom (twice!). But now she’ll encounter her most dangerous, most powerful, most unbeatable enemy yet: herself! Specifically, an evil duplicate made possible through mad science (both computer and regular) as well as some bad decisions. In other words, Squirrel Girl beats up the Marvel Universe!

The lunar colony is slowly winding down, like a small town circumvented by a new super highway. As our hero, the Mooncop, makes his daily rounds, his beat grows ever smaller, the population dwindles. Depicted in the distinctive, matter-of-fact style of Tom Gauld’s beloved Guardian strips, Mooncop is equal parts funny and melancholy. Gauld captures essential truths about humanity, making this a story of the past, present, and future, all in one. I picked this up based on a recommendation from a friend. It was quirky in the best way, and I thought about some of the panels late at night when I couldn’t sleep. Probably a weird way to say this was great and vastly overlooked, but there you have it!

This award-winning collection of 13 short stories presents some of the finest comic book and graphic novel work on the continent. Moonshot brings together dozens of creators from across North America to contribute comic book stories showcasing the rich heritage and identity of indigenous storytelling. From traditional stories to exciting new visions of the future, Moonshot is an incredible collection that will amaze, intrigue, and entertain! Originally, Moonshot was only available via their Kickstarter in 2015, but luckily it was successful as hell and shipped to shops in 2016. I can’t say enough how beautiful these stories are.

Bailey Hoskins has just discovered he’s a mutant. For someone who’s never been special, never stood out, this could be his big moment. But as he gains entry into the halls of Xavier’s School for Gifted Children, what, exactly, is his gift? He’s used to being hated, but is he anything to be feared? Bailey struggles to find a place alongside his fellow students, but the X-universe is a big one – could Magneto have just the mission for him? Or maybe the magic of time travel will reveal days of future glory. (Don’t get your hopes up). You know, I’m not even gonna lie, get the fucking tissues ready.

In a quiet seaside town, a gas station clerk named Huck secretly uses his special gifts to do a good deed each day. When his story leaks, a media firestorm erupts, bringing him uninvited fame. As pieces of Huck’s past begin to resurface, it’s no longer clear who his friends are-or whose lives may be in danger. Mark Millar’s bright, sweet story about a man particularly good at finding is akin to laying in bed in the sunlight on a Sunday afternoon. A completely pure story among this year’s indie sci-fi dystopias.

Five kids discover the body of the world’s greatest super hero, Plutona, in the woods after school one day. This discovery sends them on a dark journey that will threaten to tear apart their friendship and their lives. It’s slice of life meeting the extraordinary in a haunting story. Honestly, it isn’t too far away from Lemire’s work if you’ve enjoyed any of his writing previously. Emi’s soft faces and warm expressions provide a steady contrast to the seriousness of the story, making it all the more impressionable.
