With Halloween around the corner, we dove into our closets and skimmed the surface of the internet to find quick and easy costumes to please all manner of costume and cosplay enthusiasts! Our focus today is on the rock steady Terra from Teen Titans!
| Crop Top | Shorts | Shoes | Belt | Wig | Eyeliner |
Take a black turtleneck from the back of your closet and cut off the midriff. Or, alternatively, grab one from Amazon, where we found all of our items to put this costume together. If yellow shorts aren’t usually a staple in your own wardrobe, you can find them online or Forever 21. The boots we purchased from Amazon are actually adorable and incredibly priced if you don’t have a comparable pair for daily wear.
For accessories, most garages will yield work gloves of questionable origin for free. We also found a basic utility belt on Amazon and paired it with a long blonde wig. Any shade of blonde will work to make this costume recognizable as long as its straight with no bangs.
Terra, like the rest of us, was growing up as a member of the Teen Titans before the availability of YouTube makeup tutorials. As a result, she fell into the same teenage practice most of us did. Eyeliner. Lots of eyeliner. Any eyeliner in your drawer will do, however we like Tarte’s Double Take as it includes both a pencil and a liquid for the price of one. Add some bronzer and a swipe of nude lipstick and youre good to go!
Take costume to the next level by convincing a friend to accompany you as Beast Boy! Or Slade, if you’re more into older men. Now go do horrible things and have absolutely no regrets!

Cosplay is one of the top attractions at any convention, and New York Comic Con is no exception. Since we are in a Halloween sort of mood, we decided to look at all the horrific costumes on the show floor. Check it out!
Nosferatu
A classic German film from 1922, Nosferatu is an iconic old school silent film, one that has been granted cult status among horror buffs. Regardless of that, the title character is not one seen often, and it was refreshing to have caught sight of this “Bird of Death” cosplay.
Scarecrow
It’s safe to say a number of us grew up watching Batman: The Animated Series, and this particular member of Batman’s rogue gallery can literally scare you to death. His prominence in the Arkham series has only made him more popular, but has retained his love for exploiting his subjects’ fears.
The Joker
There’s always room for the Joker, and this one is particularly chilling as it brings current Batman artist, Greg Capullo’s work to life.
Clicker
Have you played The Last of Us? The Clickers are in the third stage of infection, and are called such due to the use of echolocation to locate “prey.” The Cordyceps fungus has grown over both eyes, and Clickers are highly aggressive, adding to their scare factor.
Adam & Barbara
While Beetlejuice isn’t particularly terrifying, the appearance the Maitlands take on to frighten the Deetz’s out of their home is a tiny bit nightmare inducing!
Frank
No list would be complete with the apocalypse predicting monster rabbit, known as Frank, who appears to teenager Donnie Darko!!

With Halloween around the corner, we dove into our closets to find quick and easy costumes to please all manner of costume and cosplay enthusiasts! Our focus today is on the elusive L from the popular anime Death Note!
Shirt | Jeans | Wig | Eyeshadow
This Halloween costume can be pulled from most closets, but just in case you don’t have a white shirt or blue jeans, we went ahead and located some for you on the cheap at Target. The main staples of this costume are L’s spiky black hair and the under eye shadows that indicate insomnia. For the wig we chose the Jett classic from Arda in black, and if you don’t have a friend or family member to borrow makeup from, simply stick with the Target theme and find some black and gray matte eyeshadow – sans sparklies.
Want to take your L costume to the next level? Find a black leather diary and write “Death Note” on it. You can also use one of L’s many defining traits, such as crouching in chairs or only eating sweets and see who among you is an anime fan! You might make a new friend, something which L is certainly lacking! Maybe you’ll even run into someone dressed up as Misa Amane!

Our focus today is on the sun goddess, Amaterasu, from The Wicked + The Divine.
Dress | Necklace | Bracelet |Â Wig | Shoes | Eyes | Lips
Like a pop idol version of the Childlike Empress, the modern day version of the sun goddess Amaterasu from The Wicked + The Divine seems to be all about the bohemian life. But a famous goddess always has expensive tastes, so the theme of this DIY costume is finding the balance.
We took some liberties with Amaterasu’s getup and found a long sleeved lace dress with just enough detail to look both easy and expensive at the same time. If you’re not used to accessories, for this Amaterasu Halloween costume, go gaudy. We chose a large gold statement necklace and paired it with a faux pearl hand chain. For the shoes, our minds wandered from festival staples like gladiator shoes and fringe booties before settling on another great compromise, suede heels with rhinestones for a psuedo expensive touch. Add a curly red wig with heavy bangs from your favorite wig shop, top it with a gold filigree headband, and you have completed your outfit!
The main staple of this costume is the multicolored eye makeup, so we chose Kat Von D’s Mi Vida Loca eyeshadow palette, which has a color wheel to help you achieve this look. Now that your eyes are on point, dab on some Obsessive Compulsive Lip Tar in the shade Radiate and go do just that!
Want to take your Amaterasu Halloween costume to the next level? Add a toy microphone and black out contact lenses for the full effect of a rock goddess!

Our focus today is on the determined Connie Maheswaran from Steven Universe!
Skirt | Top | Shoes | Bow
The strawberry to Steven Universe’s biscuit, Connie Maheswaran’s upbringing leads her to don a more comfortable attire. To snag Connie’s style, there are a few options to be found for a mint a-line skirt, but we chose Zappos as the closest, as it seems like a place Mrs. Maheswaran would allow her daughter to shop. If a plain white tee is somehow missing from your closet, no worries, Forever 21 has them on the cheap along with all sorts of fun socks to choose from. Ever the practical gal, head to Target to snatch up galoshes to keep your feet dry no matter what Beach City throws your way.
Have perfect vision and no use for prescriptions or readers? That’s okay, Connie does too. While you’re at Target, grab some sunglasses with round frames and pop the lenses out. Voila!Â
Want to take your Connie Maheswaran costume to the next level? Grab a toy violin, make Connie’s favorite book, The Unfamiliar Familiar, or have a friend join you as Steven Universe, jam buds style!
