Spoiler Alert: Stuff is sort of revealed about season five of Adventure Time.
Tumblr is going crazy over a fictional relationship again, but this time they might actually be on to something. Just peruse through the Bubbline tag on Tumblr and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
There are a lot of people who believe Princess Bubblegum and Marceline are, like, totally in love with each other – or that they were at some other time in their very long lives. Then there are others who just believe that PBubs and Marcy used to be besties until something terrible and unfortunate happened in the Land of Ooo to separate the two.
No matter how you chose to see it (if you choose to see it at all), the fanart of Princess Bubblegum and Marceline, or Bubbline as the pairing suggests, is beautiful.
Thestarofpisces via DeviantartI don’t know if I think Princess Bubblegum and Marceline are in love – partially because I haven’t caught up completely on my Adventure Time viewing, but also because I see them as besties rather than gf/gf. The nice thing about the Adventure Time fandom is that they’ve made space for all sorts of theories on the history behind Bubbline.
And then there’s Tumblr
All the Bubbline shippers, however, are losing their shit over the announcement of next week’s new episode, titled “Sky Witch”. The synopsis on the Adventure Time wikia is as follows: “Marceline is on a top-secret mission tracking Maja the Sky Witch. But when she loses the witch’s trail, Marceline turns to Princess Bubblegum for help” It doesn’t seem like much, but to Bubbline shippers it’s practically a promise that their OTP is destined to become canon. We shall learn more once the episode airs!
Although I find the Bubbline situation intriguing, what’s even more interesting is all the THOUGHT that Adventure Time fans give to their show. What started out as a seven minute short on Nickelodeon has turned into this amazing series with an expansive universe–and viewers have taken notice. Most of the complexity is revealed in subtext or through clues in the animation. Sure, some of it is theoretical, as in the example from tumblr, but some of it has undeniable credibility–starting with the fact that the entire show takes place on a post-apocalyptic Earth. If it’s really on Earth, then why is it so important that Finn be identified as “Finn the human”? WHERE ARE ALL THE OTHER HUMANS?
It’s little quips that show you where these theories are born.
Back to my original point, though. Does Adventure Time have a gay agenda? Probably not, but I guess it’s possible. I suppose we will know better once “Sky Witch” airs. Or not.
This post brought to you by decisive, breaking news on season five of Adventure Time.
In my hurry to write an article worth reading on this lazy Sunday, I received a text from my co-worker, on one of the few shows I recommended she watch: WB’s 1999 hit Roswell. Who hasn’t seen Roswell? Well, apparently, tons of people under 25.
When there isn’t a new episode of Doctor Who, Sherlock (hang in there!), Supernatural, Game of Thrones, Merlin (I’m so, so sorry), what are we to do? Sure, we can browse Tumblr until the sun comes up, literally, but let’s be real, we all want something new to obsess over. Where can we find completed/ended shows that will instill those feelings of angst, those heart aching moments of pure sadness? IN THE PAST, OF COURSE. Without further ado, here are three shows you can find to fill in your void (all puns intended).
3. Buffy the Vampire Slayer – I am almost pained to find out there are people who have not seen this. I keep in mind they are but young people, so it wasn’t part of their after school experience like it was for me. BTVS revolves around Buffy Summers, the latest in a line of young women known as “Vampire Slayers” or simply “Slayers.” Slayers are “called” to battle against vampires, demons, and other forces of darkness. Like earlier Slayers, Buffy is aided by a Watcher, who guides, teaches, and trains her. She encounters love (of a particularly forbidden nature) and loss throughout the show, and it’s one that will hopefully grow on you. Buffy has seven seasons and can be found in its entirety on Netflix. Its spin-off, Angel, is also available in its entirety for further viewing. If you’re a fan of Supernatural, this might be the best one for you to try.
2. Firefly – After Han Solo, yet before Captain Jack Harkness, there was another charming man with a gun/blaster who captained the Firefly-class ship, Serenity. While Malcom Reynolds and his crew of eight only get one season in which to invade our hearts, it’s a ride filled with every feeling imaginable. I can’t really talk much about it because I’ll start to feel my eyes tear up and yet again, shake my fist as I swear at invisible Fox Network executives. This show is also the only one on this list which has a nickname for its fans: Browncoats.
1. Roswell – Roswell is one of those shows that was far lesser known than big names like Buffy or Firefly, but for those of us who like the stomach churning agony of Doctor Who, you need not look further. Roswell is told from Liz’s point of view, a regular human girl who happens to live in Roswell, NM, where virtually nothing interesting happens until an argument between customers in her parents’ cafe gets ugly and Liz is shot. A classmate runs to her side and curiously heals her with his alien powers…I won’t say more than that, but I will warn you that there are only three seasons, so it’s a short watch, but will leave you yearning for more which will never come. This is where Colin Hanks and Katherine Heigl got their start, and main stars, Shiri Appleby and Jason Behr WILL become your OTP.
Hopefully, if you’re in a rut and browsing Netflix instant one night, you’ll try out one of these series and find something new to obsess and love! Maybe you’ll try all three and be like me. Or more likely, you’re rolling your eyes at my inherent fangirl and will try none.

Deadrabbit92 and I generally have a mutual liking for all the things, but when it comes to Doctor Who, she is more stubborn than Namor each time I plead with her to watch it. As she began rolling out these Ship of the Weeks, I found more than one of my treasured OTPs taken and so I vowed one day to find one that I could do. It was during one such brainstorming session that I absentmindedly started to rewatch Doctor Who and felt my feels rage in a tumultuous storm that I’ve come to realize is my love for Ten and Rose Tyler.
At least half of the Whovians I know hate Rose. She is whiny and young and such a silly girl for falling in love with the Doctor. The other half ship them so hard, it’s near blasphemy to utter words such as “I like Martha better” or “RIVER FOREVER!” I admit I had my misgivings as I got to know the 19 year old British blonde, but then it hit me: she behaved exactly like a 19 year old would.
Think back for a moment to when you were 19. There may not have been much going on and for a charismatic stranger to show up and promise you the universe…I think it’s safe to say the majority of us would have left our deadbeat boyfriend Mickey and shitty retail job in a fucking heartbeat. It’s not all sunshine and roses (no pun intended) as they encounter living plastic, Cybermen, Daleks, and of course, the drop dead gorgeous Captain Jack Harkness. Their adventures aren’t without heartbreak whether it be from watching her father die in the past or hearing the Beast say she will die.
My soft spot, nay, obsession for the Ten/Rose pairing came from one particular episode: New Earth. I think it’s my most watched episode simply because it’s fun as Rose’s body is taken over by a narcissistic psychopath and let’s just say she gets a little saucy with the Doctor. This feeling is only further strengthened by the absolutely heart wrenching ending to season 2 as the Doctor and Rose are separated forever. As I moaned “Why, God, WHY?!” into my pillow that first viewing, clutching the same pillow I would boogerize during “The Angels Take Manhattan”, I knew it was just the first of many viewings as I searched for clues for a reappearance, one which came with bittersweet endings.
Some people agree with my choice, yet there are others who ship Eleven and Rose and that baffles me as I don’t even think of them as the same person, let alone the same Doctor. It’s a strange, strange world we live in and then I realize it’s 2am and I’m typing about fictional love pairings in a sci-fi show.
In a moment of passion and almost in the eye of death, Ten lays out just how vast and important his belief in Rose is, so why not have that immortalized with this bracelet?
Bracelets not quite your thing? Never fear, this shirt is available in both men’s and women’s cuts!
Perhaps something a bit cuter? How’s about this ADORABLE display box that will cost you a pretty penny, but look how cute Ten is!
If you’re like me, you need something to constantly remind you of the love and sadness that comes with investing energy into this short lived pairing, in which case I offer up these bits of art to help you on your way (or to help you sigh in obsession as you make them your wallpapers/desktops).

Okay, let’s be real here. You didn’t want Ten and Rose to part and neither did I. In fact, I fought it so hard, I searched for fanfictions that not only detailed their love affair as it explored the, err, next level, but also was written well and perhaps even blended future seasons so Rose got to experience them instead of settling with the Doctor clone when she coul dbe traveling with the real thing.
As always, I’m here to learn and listen, so share with me who you liked, if you think the Doctor should always remain alone, or if he needs to just get it on with Jack Harkness.
