Cuphead is a classic run and gun action game heavily focused on boss battles. Inspired by cartoons of the 1930s, the visuals and audio are painstakingly created with the same techniques of the era. From traditional hand drawn cel animation, watercolor backgrounds, and original jazz recordings, Cuphead takes you back in time!

Sub Cultured is Heading to DakuCon 2018!
PaxSouth is a hub for intriguing and inventive games, and the first two video games from movie studio, Annapurna Pictures, are no exception.
Gorogoa
Gorogoa caught my eye firstly because of the art. It looked like a coloring book brought to life, like a dream you could wade through via computer. I spent a solid half hour diving into the story, figuring out some puzzles with lightning speed and stumbling through others while feeling judged by the character when I got stuck. That said, I can’t wait to get my hands on the entire game!
Designed, developed, and illustrated by Jason Roberts, Gorogoa is a completely unique game. The overall story is equal parts myth and magic as a boy sees a colossal monstrosity in his city and decides to unlock the secrets to finding it. Each gorgeous scene is split into four panels that you can explore through a simple point and click mechanic. Solving each puzzle reveals more of the story. Elegantly simple and perfect for fans enamored of lovely storytelling.
Gorogoa is scheduled to hit mobile devices and Steam in Spring 2017.
What Remains of Edith Finch
I adore morbid games, and when I saw that What Remains of Edith Finch ‘s premise revolves around about different characters dying, I immediately signed up to demo What Remains of Edith Finch.
What Remains of Edith Finch is a collection of short tales about a family in Washington state. As Edith, the player will explore the colossal Finch house, searching for stories. Each story you find lets you experience the life of a new family member on the day of their death, with stories ranging from the distant past to the present day, and culminating with that family member’s death.
In the 20 minute demo, we experienced the final moments of two different family members. The macabre interactive narrative is completely fresh in its storytelling and the attention to detail reminds the player that this title isn’t suited to the run-and-gun. I don’t want to spoil anything for those of you picking it up, but prepare yourself for some feelings. Oh, and remember to breathe.
What Remains of Edith Finch is due out Spring 2017 on Steam and PS4. Check back here, because this is the standout title that we absolutely cannot wait to get our grubby little hands on and review in depth!

Richard Morgan’s ‘A Land Fit for Heroes’ is out now on Mobile with a dizzying plot and grim anti-heroes for those who are ready to embrace all that is dark and violent in the fantasy genre!
Gollancz, an imprint of the Orion Publishing Group, with indie developer Liber Primus Games, today released their joint project – an addictive multiplayer gamebook, the first of its kind, set in the world of award-winning novelist and Crysis 2 and Syndicate writer Richard Morgan’s Sword and Sorcery trilogy A Land Fit for Heroes.

I think all fantasy fans are going to appreciate having the power in their hands to choose the destiny of these new characters and to explore the world beyond the limits of the original story.”
A Land Fit for Heroes is a gripping story of three wholly new characters and a sequence of bloodthirsty events steeped in mystery and gore. It is not your average gamebook; A Land Fit for Heroes is darker and deeper than the gamebook norm, explicit in matters of both sex and violence, targeted primarily at a mature audience. The main characters are not traditional heroes but outcasts with scarred souls and murky pasts. This is a story and character design with a truly dark twist; readers may be shocked but they will still be enthralled by Morgan’s rich and mysterious dark fantasy tapestry, presented in a fresh and entirely unique format.
In another first for the gamebook format players will get to choose not only the acts but the sexual orientation of their chosen character, a facet which reflects the diverse character traits and personal choices made by characters in the novels.
This grim fantasy title which represents the first book in the trilogy is now available on the Play Store for Android devices, the App Store for iPhone, iPad, iTouch and additionally on Amazon for Kindle Fire. “A Land Fit For Heroes” Gets New Trailer and Release Date
Dear reader,
You have stepped into a world where there is no real return from, as comics like Saga are a gateway drug to visual fiction, OTPs, and fan fiction. Why, you ask? Because it is series’ that are so expertly constructed like Saga that you can’t help but fall into them head first. Let’s talk about what it did to me.
I used to have a life outside of comics. I used to know what the sun felt like, the smell of grass after a rain storm…but no longer. Now my life has been consumed by possibly the greatest comic I have ever read. Have you read the great gospel of our Lord and Master, SAGA?
How can you not want to read this!
Saga is an epic space opera by Brian K. Vaughn and Fiona Staples. If you haven’t had a chance to read it yet, think about if how the situation would play out if Romeo and Juliet never committed suicide, instead of Capulet vs Montague we had Horns vs Wings, and Shakespeare jumped into a blender with Star Wars. What we’re left with is a nice Saga smoothie. It’s a great smoothie too as the art and writing flows so well together sometimes you can’t tell the two apart. When that happens you get moments like this.
Vaughn weaves a story that is simultaneously out of this world and incredibly grounded. Fiona Staples’ art is unique, and her lines draw your eye towards the action. While there are tons of things to love about the main characters Alana, Marko, and their daughter Hazel who serves as the narrator, the supporting cast really shines from the bounty hunter The Will to Prince Robot IV.
You might be asking yourself,
“Self, how do I get Sub Cultured to tell me where to start reading this amazing and exhilarating piece of visual fiction?”
Well, weird reader that refers to themselves in third person personal (or first person possessive, I always forget which one you are using), there are more than a few places you can find Saga. Image has a really incredibly priced trade paperback (softcover) for the first six issues and sites like Comixology allow you to keep it on your mobile device or tablet. You could also go the route of the collector and hunt each individual issue down.
Whatever it is you decide to do, make sure to find a way to read this book.
